Preparing for GYLS

AMBASSADOR & ALUMNI

Please remember to bring:

  • A copy of your medical insurance. For the outside chance you’ll need it. If you’re traveling internationally and are not a USA citizen, you might want to get traveler’s medical insurance; otherwise you’ll have to pay cash for any medical expenses you’ll incur.
  • A photocopy of your passport and/or ID
  • A copy of all of your travel forms you’ve already submitted

Arrival and Departure

  • Check-in for Ambassador and Alumni is Tues. July 11th 2017 at 9am-12pm; followed by event activities. Please note: we do not have accommodations for early arrivals.
  • Check out: Participants must depart UCSD campus Sunday July 16th 2017 no later than  11 am. If you are being picked up form the event, you will need to make sure the first and last name is provided to the Foundation prior to the event. Please note: we do not have accommodations for late departures. 
  • Drop off/ pick up location: For detailed campus map, click HERE. You will want to look for parking lots P102 and P103 near the Revelle Residence Halls (Letter “J”) 

What to bring to GYLS 2017

  • Appropriate clothing: Jacket/sweatshirts; walking and running shoes; plenty of socks; and comfortable, casual clothes. Shorts and jeans are fine. The main room can be cool and San Diego evenings can get chilly! It will most likely be in the mid-70s/80s (Fahrenheit) during the day. No halter tops or bare midriffs, and shorts should be at a respectable length.
  • Additional items: Sunscreen, lip balm, sunglasses and a hat to protect you from the sun. You will be outside, mid-day every day. Bring an extra set of towels. UCSD provides only one set. Extra set of bed linens – if you wish – UCSD will provide linens, but only one set. Non-perishable snacks for rooms. There are no refrigerators in dorm rooms. Spending cash: Airports have stores for souvenirs, shirts, etc. if you choose to purchase something. There will be no admission to the food courts at UCSD. All meals will be provide at GYLS. If you lose your meal card you will be responsible for replacing it; fee is $5  USD per lost card. 
  • Items to leave at home: ANY ESSENTIAL OILS or strong scented items. Inappropriate/revealing clothing or anything decorated with profanity or obscene images/gestures. Basically, anything “mom” and/or school wouldn’t approve of! Cigarettes, vapes and alcohol are prohibited. UCSD is a a drug, alcohol and tobacco free campus. This includes non-prescription and all illegal drugs. Weapons are also prohibited – this includes pocket knives of any kind. We’re looking out for your health and safety as well as that of the people around you when we ask you to observe these ground rules. We thank you in advance, for adhering to this basic code of conduct 

Attention Parents

  • If your child participates in any behavior GYLS or UCSD Staff defines as inappropriate such as illegal substance use, sexual activity, leaving campus without permission, or intimidation or violent behavior, the identified guardians will be notified immediately and we will arrange for the child’s immediate departure at your expense.  Illegal substance use includes (but not limited to) drugs, alcohol, tobacco and/or any non-prescribed medications. 

YOUTH LEADER, YOUTH COACH, COACH & TEAM LEADER

  • Check-in for Youth Leader, Youth Coach, Coach and Team Leader is Mon. July 10th 2017 from 9:00am-12:00pm; followed by training Please note: we do not have accommodations for early arrivals.
  • Check out: Must depart UCSD campus Sunday July 16th 2017 after 12 pm – coaches and youth coaches will be responsible for all participants in their dorm departing safely. Please note: we do not have accommodations for late departures. 
  • If you are driving to GYLS you can use approved UCSD parking lots at your own risk and expense. The Tony Robbins Foundation will not reimburse for parking unless you are personally notified by a GYLS Staff member. Please contact UCSD for available parking lots.

What to/not to pack for GYLS 2017

Don’t forget!

  • Decorations for your home team rooms (dorms). Nothing inappropriate 
  • Snacks you will want to share with your team (only HEALTHY options, no junk food permitted)
